This poster design was for George Brown College’s Ideas and Images course.
The design was influenced by a lecture within the Ideas and Images course that spoke on the media’s portrayal of body types, gender, sexuality, and stereotypes. It was from there that I put my focus solely on how men are portrayed in the media — typically as hyper sexual, heterosexual, and exuding a sense of toxic masculinity. With those traits considered, I wanted to convey that visually through a collage style just to truly highlight how messy and complex these elements are. Through the use of crying stoic statues, intertwined muscular male body parts, and nods to female body parts, the collage creates this sense of organized chaos and challenges the viewer to think deeper about why we feel this should work.
